J. Cole dropped his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story on September of 2011 and has been pretty quiet ever since but he has dropped a few songs here-and-there to keep his name buzzing in the “blogosphere”. I am fan of J. Cole’s music because he is one of the few rappers that approach hip-hop as an art. He paints pictures throughout his lyrics, he doesn’t just spew out random, witty punchlines. You can tell J. Cole puts a lot of thought in his work and does not like to release any material until it is perfect to him. He doesn’t worry about the public perception, he knows his fan-base and why they have been so loyal to him. Outside of “Work Out“ he has never fell to pressure of going the commercial route.
J. Cole decided to release this free EP after setbacks caused him to delay the release of his forthcoming sophomore album Born Sinner.
