Next year’s Super Bowl is in New York, the birthplace of Hip-Hop, and up until now hip-hop has been represented twice in the Super Bowl by Nelly and he didn’t headline either time. Hip-Hop has grown in America to probably be considered the 2nd biggest genre of music and it is time that it is represented. It would be lazy of the NFL to not get New York’s unofficial mayor, Jay-Z, on the ticket. The NFL has received nothing but negative feedback for having the Super Bowl in a cold climate city and in a stadium without a dome, but having Jay-Z perform at half-time would cancel out all of those negative remarks.
Jay-Z has composed New York’s anthem of the new millennium; Empire State of Mind, he is a landmark in that city, and he is probably the most iconic figure in hip-hop history. The year after Beyonce performs at the Super Bowl the NFL can have her husband perform, that is just another big story-line to promote the Super Bowl and add more viewers. With Jay-Z on the ticket, you are almost guaranteed features from other notable artists like: Kanye West, and Alicia Keys.
Jay-Z is the greatest business man in the music industry today, and he has more than enough avenues to promote this event. Jay-Z has performed in Yankees stadium, Madison Square Garden, and the Barclays Center; which he helped build, so you know he is just itching to perform at MetLife Stadium.
Jay-Z performing at Super Bowl XLVIII in New York should be a no-brainer.
