What Is Next For The Celtics?

The Boston Celtics are the most storied franchise in the history of the NBA, winning 17 championships since being established in 1946. With such a history it is hard to see them in the predicament that they are in. Now that their All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo went down with a torn ACL and the Celtics are just 21-23 at the 8th seed of the Eastern Conference, their playoff hopes look scarce. This has been a very rocky season for the Celtics thus far, going through multiple losing streaks (one consisting of 6 consecutive losses), and now to lose their best player after such a momentous victory over the Miami Heat.

Is it time to completely blow the team up?

In 2007 when the Celtics resigned Paul Pierce along with signing Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, the goal was championships, they had 2 NBA Finals appearance and won one championship. The Celtics have been one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference for the past 5 years and for the past 3 years they have been doubted and they have been told their championship window is closing. After losing Ray Allen this past off-season and now losing Rajon Rondo possibly until the midway point of next season, the chances of the Celtics being in the championship race is beyond doubtful.

Are Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce valuable enough to trade?

STON7794.JPGI’m sure that can get something back for Pierce and Garnett but I don’t believe it is worth it. Their best player is Rajon Rondo, the boy is a triple-double waiting to happen. I have faith that he’ll come back just as strong, if not even more strong than before. I men he thought he had a hamstring injury whilst walking around with a torn ACL. That is a sign of a freak of nature, I mean we all saw what happened when Derrick Rose tore his ACL, I thought he was shot or something. I think in this season is definitely a wash but I do believe this team can grind out one more season as is (along with a few roster tweaks, nothing major) and be in championship contention in the 2013-14 season. This team just made it to game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals last year.

The fact is that Rajon Rondo is one of the 3 best point guards in the NBA (following Chris Paul and Derrick Rose) and without him the Celtics will not be contenders, Rondo averages 14 points a game and he averages 11 assists, that means he is accountable for a minimum of 36 points a game, no one in this league is doing that in this league anymore. The Celtics must take the same approach that the Bulls took win Derrick Rose tore his ACL, be patient.
