My favorite late-night talk show hosts have always been Conan O’Brien and David Letterman (Jay Leno annoys me) but Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon have never been far behind. After changing from 11:35 to 10:35 (Central time) I have found myself watching a lot more Kimmel than usual and that got me thinking, did the time change really make a difference? I then realized that I did not really watch Conan at all until he moved to 10 o’clock on TBS. So, I think there is some truth to the time difference being in the hosts favor.
Last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! has me thinking it is the best late-night talk show on air because Jimmy Kimmel is younger and more relatable than his competition plus he is the guy who gave us The Man Show, but last night I think Kimmel and his writers pulled something off that no other late-night talk show could and that is have a great episode with the star saying a word.
For years, as an on-going joke Jimmy Kimmel would close the show saying: “I want to apologize to Matt Damon, we ran out of time” but last night Matt Damon got his revenge and took Kimmel hostage as Damon took over the show bringing on a cast of Hollywood’s biggest stars who all took fun in insulting Jimmy Kimmel. Episodes like last night’s are what separate Jimmy Kimmel Live! from all of the other late-night talk shows, the writers take risks that always seem to pay off.
Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O’Brien are the best late-night hosts today, they both have benefited from great writers, earlier times, and being the only late-night talk show on their network. Letterman is a legend he will never fade out of respect and he has never been afraid to take risks as well.
Today Jimmy Kimmel got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
