Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of the most important people in the history of the United States of America. He gave a group of people a voice and he fought for what he believed until his death. He and Malcolm X died for preaching to anyone who would listen that everyone on this planet should be treated the same way as anyone else, despite age, sex, race, or class. Martin Luther King died before schools were completely integrated. Since his death this country has improved greatly, to the point we have actually elected a black president to two terms, but equality still is far out of reach, racism is still alive.
We all as Americans have a duty to pay our respects to Martin Luther King today because if it were not for him this country would not be what it is today, and all though it is not perfect it is much better than it was in the 1950’s.
